Re-tratos* is an exhibition held at Bàsic Comunicació (C/ Sabaters 3 – Valencia) from 2nd December, 2011 to 2nd January, 2012, formed by a series of portraits with which Juan Pajares aka flextatowa paid tribute to a number of people who he first portrayed and then challenged, in an exchange game; the aforementioned could keep the portraits in exchange of something... material or immaterial to compensate the acquisition.
The exhibition displays pictures of all the "gifts" received together with the portraits of the participants. A number of images, objects and ideas as the result of the "re-trato" (deal) between Flextatowa and Alex Guimerà, Am3ba, Anna Huix, Ceerre, Dulk, Fermín Jiménez Landa, Irene Grau, Ivan Exposito, Javier Chapa, José Infantes, Laura Soriano, Mankey, María Gea, María Ruiz-Jiménez, Marina Marino and Toshi Iwasaki.
* Re-tratos (an appropriate play on words referring to a deal that the artist has agreed on with a series of people. Retrato meaning literally portrait, a word that can also be understood as making a deal, when introducing the dash in the middle: "RE-TRATO"... Where the artist is getting something back for the portrait he has created for the person).
